During the past years, consumers have spent billion on home and premises security, and the number of homes, offices and commercial sites with security systems has increased almost 40% in the past 5 years. Although no system makes your premises completely burglarproof, a security system can reduce the chances of being burglarized and give you some peace of mind. In many countries a security system is conditional when you are going to insure your property.

Basic elements of a security system include perimeter sensors on outside doors and windows, motion detectors in key inside areas, a control unit to interpret and respond to signals from the sensors, a siren or other alert mechanism, and a connection to a central monitoring station to notify the police. Fire detection and medical emergency devices are other available options.

Security systems can be wireless or wired. Wireless systems use battery-powered radio transmitters to connect the various system components.

Wireless systems have the advantage of simple installation, and mobility to new premises – it’s easy and practical. If you are looking for a professional wireless system, consider that prices are higher. If you are looking for low-cost one you get low security, better get a dog! Wireless systems are limited in their capabilities and require more service than a wired one.

With a wired alarm, the system components are permanently connected by wires into floors and walls. A professional company typically installs and services the system. A wired system is more reliable than a wireless one, and offers a wider choice of features, tighter security, and higher reliability. Av-Gad offers you a combination between wired and wireless for higher reliability and lower service rate.

The best security system shall be adapted and scheduled in consideration of your lifestyle and of the specific valuables you wish to protect. Carefully consider your security requirements and your budget. Your local police department may have a crime prevention unit that can recommend specific security measures.

Before you choose your system, find out how you are going to live with it. There are many brand systems that are complicated to operate and to load the messages from and sometime simply does not work.

Question 12A: I have the AV-GAD AV 2008D and was wondering if it is possible to connect two of Eye Spy PIR to one zone. I am using the EOL resistors wired for two wires (plus 2 for the power) operation.
Answer: Yes, you can connect two PIR’s to one zone, in case you are using EOL resistors you need to connect the two PIR’s in series and purchase a special EOL resistor; 1,100 ohm, this is not a popular value, so you better use one PIR per zone.

Question 13A: How many sensors that may be supported in any one zone?
Answer: Theoretically, you can connect as many PIR as you like to one zone, but practically in case of false alarm you will have problems to find the faulty PIR.

Question 30A: During programming I lost the programming code and the feature “Enable codes reset to default by * & #” (address 072/ 08) was disabled by myself, what can I do?
Answer: You can enter your system via the download program and enter new code, or replace the board.

Other way is via the keypad, get into Programming mode, enter 200, LEDs blinking, enter 00, the keypad will display the version.

Question 41A: We are using AV-2088D with AV-702 keypad. Our purpose is to have 20 zone alarm system with additional AV-208 expansion module
Answer: To reach 20 zones you need to enable two zones on one terminal. See what to do:
In order to get two zones on one terminal, enable the double zone feature, at address 074 -8.
The wiring should be done with two different resistors as drawing on page 13 in AV-2088D manual.
The terminal marked as zone 1 is for zone 1 and for zone 9, wire 2.2K resistor to zone 1 and the 4.7K to the same terminal (for zone 9), it’s recommended to place the resistor in the detector.
To get a 20 zone system; program address 100 1 to 8, 101 1 to 8, 102 only 1 2 3 4. Address 140, 141 (Enable EOL) is not required to program.

Sensors

Question 1C: Do I need to run two ‘V’ wires to the Eye Spy II PIR? (i.e. one for power and one for the sensor/tamper). Or I can you run just one ‘V ‘ wire for both power and sensor?
Answer: No, you can run a three (four wires cable is most common)  wires and use the -V wire a common for zone and power.

Question 2C: I installed your PIR at one meter high; the range is only 7 8 meters, and not over 12 meters, why?
Answer: The optimum height for our PIR’s is two meters, when installed at one meter the range will be shorter.

Question 3C: I own few old PIR sensors in my office, when the summer come the detection is very pure, why?
Answer: Your PIR is a low cost type; try our Eye Spy that contains temperature compensation circuitry. You will be surprised about the difference.

Question 4C: I have some problems with PIR in tropical climate, the PIR unit sticks and stays on all the time even after warming up period. This is not so in a colder climate and works normally.
Answer: Your PIR is a low cost type that emits false alarm in hot climate. The Eye Spy II digital will do the job much better when temp. is not higher than +30 degrees C.

Question 5C: I need to install some ceiling mount PIR’s but the price seems to be very high, what can you recommend?
Answer: The Eye Spy PRO will solve your problem at a very reasonable price. The enclosed swivel bracket will allow you to install the Eye Spy on ceiling. For better coverage use the PIR-750.

Question 6C: I noticed that your Eye Spy PIR contains a Tamper switch, shall I use it?
Answer: Yes, connect the Tamper switch and wire is into a day or 24H zone. If you have a EasyLoad panel you can run both Tamper and Alarm on two wires.

Question 7C: I want to protect the sensors zones with EOL (end of line) resistor, is it recommended?
Answer: Yes, it will protect your lines against tampering, make sure to locate the EOL resistor inside the sensor.

Question 8C: Concerning the use of detectors, which is better, PIR or PIR + Microwave?
Answer: The PIR + Microwave can solve some false alarm problems and it’s recommended for open spaces and areas with open windows.

Question 9C: At my home I use your AV 2008D panel with unknown brand PIR’s, I get once a night false alarms form certain zones, what can I do?
Answer: 1. Bypass all zones by shorting the sensor relay wires in the PIR, this will prevent the relay from activating the panel, run for few days and if no false alarm, the problem is in the PIR. 2. Use Av Gad sensors, it will prevent false alarms.

Question 10C: Can I connect 12 outdoor beams to my AV-2008?
Answer: Yes, but you better use the AV-2016 that have more zones, if you insist on the AV 2008 you must add an external power supply (item AV-21) and separate back up battery.

Question 11C: Do you have any sensor that can detect a glass break earlier that the PIR?
Answer: Yes, the Brako, also we have few types of glass break sensors; they will detect the glass break immediately.

Question 12C: I want to have a new system wires free, I heard saying that price is very high, is it so?
Answer: Yes, the professional wireless sensors cost 3 to 4 times more than the wired sensors, also consider the maintenance expenses, as battery should be replaced from time to time by a technician.

Question 13C: In my area (Asia) the shock sensor is very popular, but recently I get many false alarms, any solution?
Answer: Yes few solutions: 1. Your panel maybe a low cost one, try to use an EasyLoad one; a signal processor is included in all panels. 2. We have a double ball shock sensor that works perfectly which has different operating principle that the low cost shock sensor doesn’t have. 3. Best of all is the SesMo

Question 14C: I installed an AV Gad Pro 8 Zone system with Eye Spy sensors. Unfortunately I am getting false alarms from two rooms. One room standard size. The other is very big with many windows (sensors are not facing the window). How to improve the reliability of the system ?
Answer: In order to prevent and find false alarms source:
1. Lower the PIR sensitivity by setting the PIR to 3 pulse count, lower the SENS trimmer. Track the false alarm time, it can give you a hint.
2. Make sure the PIR is fully sealed, no drilling holes, etc.
3. Is your wiring is by the book? Don’t mix sensors and keypad wires, don’t run noisy signals like telephone and AC with system wires.
4. To verify the false alarm source cover the PIR lens from outside with a tape or similar that will blind the PIR , if false alarm continue it means it’s an electric fault (wiring, panel, internal PIR, etc) if false alarm stop, the alarm caused by a subject in the room (heat source, wind, sun, etc).

Modem for Up and Download

From your PC, you can program all features, edit and add texts to LCD keypads, see the last events (false alarms, AC fail, etc), arm, disarm and more.

For remote programming you need a PC, modem (better external) and EasyLoad software.

The best modem at 300 to 56K high speed cost $ 80 to $110, the software is one time charge.

If you have an external modem that support 300 baud you can use it.

If you want to program or check a system on installation site you need a very simple laptop and cable (interface inside), that Av-Gad supply called AV-232.

Any laptop, even 4-5 years old with serial in/out RS-232 will do the job.

Question 1D: I am having trouble configuring my laptops modem with communication program, Version 3.50. Do you have a windows version of the program yet?
Answer: The EasyLoad works just fine under Windows 98 and XP. Many professionals prefer the DOS, sounds old? No, if you need a reilable low cost tool, keep the DOS, it’s virus free, laptop cost nothing, crash free and no updates.
The windows version is ready, supporting XP, Vista and Windows 7.

Question 2D: I have purchased an AV-2005D kit from Jaycar electronics here in Adelaide, South Australia. The manual talks about “EasyLoad” software but it hasn’t come with the kit and I can’t find it on your web site. Should I go back to Jaycar for this?
Answer: Yes, your vendor will sale the EasyLoad pack at $AS 5 to 10.

Question 3D: I am trying to connect the PC to the control panel via RS 232. I have tried some connectors and I can’t connect. How do I plug the cable connector? Is there any special command or configuration to enter?
Answer: You need the AV 232 adapter, when you connect the AV 232 to your computer follow the instructions enclosed with AV 232. Make sure you have one hardware COM available in your computer. When all connected get to program mode, enter address 200, and press 77, when LED’s start blinking communication is on.

Question 4D: I installed the EasyLoad successfully, but when I try Auto Detect, I get “No response from modem”, why?
Answer: There are few reasons; the most common one is that the used modem is not according to our specifications. Please read our Modem Solver article for further details.

Question 5D: My computer modem calls the panel, the keypad’s LEDs are blinking, but then I get “No response from panel”, why?
Answer: Your modem does not support the Bell 103 protocol, so when the EasyLoad asks your panel to identify, the panel does not ‘understand’ the answer. Try replacing your modem.

Question 6D: I want to program my Av Gad control panel with a laptop computer, do I need special cable?
Answer: Yes, you must get the AV 232 adapter.

Question 7D: Do you have a computer (PC) interface connection available to your alarm system panels? It would be very good if system could be managed and set up from the screen.
Answer: Yes, if you are using the AV 2005, AV 2008 and AV 2016, you can connect the control panel from the computer, all you need is the AV 232 adapter.

Question 8D: What is the cable connection required to connect a PC to the AV Gad Control Panel? And to which control panels do you connect the PC cable?
Answer: All you need is the AV 232 adapter. The AV 2005, AV 2008 and AV 2016 can be controlled via the AV 232.

Question 9D: In the computer software EasyLoad I entered the dealer code and forgot the entry, now I can’t connect this customer panel, what can I do?
Answer: This program is protected, all you can do is replacing the panel PCB, and this code can’t be restored.

Question 10D: When I run the EasyLoad in DOS program, my mouse doesn’t work, how can I move the cursor?
Answer: Use the TAB and ALT + Highlight keys.

Question 11D: I own a new Pentium III computer with COM 7 free, can I use this com for your EasyLoad modem?
Answer: No, some computers under Windows build a virtual COM outputs, those do not support DOS, use the COM 1 or COM 4.

Question 12D: I have problems using my new Winmodem (year 2001) when trying to set it up with the EasyLoad program, why?
Answer: Winmodem is low cost modems that are only appropriate for use with Microsoft Windows on a fast Pentium.You need a hardware modem with Bell 103 and Hayes commands support.Such modem is available at Av Gad. Also refer to our modem helper program.

Question 13D: I am using the AV 232 cable to locally up and download my Av Gad panels, can I get a 25 meters cable?
Answer: No, the AV 232 cable length can be maximum 5 meters long. This requires special order.

Question 14D: When I call the AV 2008 panel, an answering machine is answering before the panel. Do you have an “Answering Machine Bypass” feature?
Answer: Yes we do, other possibility is before you connect to the panel ask the owner to enter the “Answer Now” feature, this is done by holding down key 6 then holding down key 1, “A” is displayed in confirmation. During the next 5 minutes, the panel will answer after the 1st ring. Also refer to attached detailed documnet.

RF Remotes

Question 1E: I’m looking for a “Panic” button that could be remotely carried and send an alert signal to a central desk, what is your item?
Answer: You may get the AVS22 or A11RX, it’s a kit containing one receiver and two transmitters. Also you can use the A22RX, similar kit but with two channels, so you can use one channel for Arming and the other one for panic.

Question 2E: I use your AVS-22 RF remotes; some times I get very low range, why?
Answer: 1. Locate the receiver as high as possible. 2. In some areas the AVS-22 frequency is blocked by other RF sources, try the same set in other location. 3. Don’t use low cost power supplies that deliver low or not regulated voltage.

Question 3E: I use your panels but recently I need a wireless panel, what can you offer?
Answer: Full wireless panel is coming, such one is expensive and complicate for installation, try our Freeko II that can be wired to the EasyLoader or any other panels.

Question 4E: How many transmitters (TX) can I use with my AVS-22 set?
Answer: In general you can have up to 100 per one receiver, just consider that every TX should be separately programmed to have the same coding as the others.

Question 5E: What range can I get with Double Range RF remotes?
Answer: It’s hard to say, as the range is effected by the environment, in open area our test gives over 250 meters, indoor we get some times 30 meters and some times 70 meters.

Question 6E: What battery is used in Av Gad RF remotes?
Answer: This is a standard small 12V battery, type 23A, Alkaline.

Question 8E: I need the AVS-22 to work with 24V for gate opening; do you have a 24V version?
Answer: Yes, such version is available for 24V AC or DC. Contact us for your special product.

Question 9E: On a Freeko II system, I get a question mark (?) on the LCD display
Answer: The (?) means you have a supervision problem, the receiver do not receive the supervision signal sent by the Freeko II sensor, in such case it also activate the sounder.

In this case we recommend to reset the receiver, clear all sensors and tech the sensors again by keeping two important rules:

– The sensor you add to receiver to be 2-3 meters far from the receiver, not close to receiver
– When you need to send the signal to receiver to press the Tamper switch (some try to cause detection and receiver confirm it)

Question 10E: Can I turn off the alarm tone in the Freeko II receiver?
Answer: This is part of the supervision trouble indicator, you can’t turn it off

Question 11E: Wireless vs Wired
Answer:

Wireless systems disadvantages:

1. Cost 3 times more than wired

2. Service is 3 times more than wired (batteries, range cut by RF sources, etc..)

3. In some sites may not work properly (if close to strong RF source)

4. In some countries not approved by insurance companies, as security is low

5. By using a RF jammer in the frequency of wireless you can disrupt the system

Wireless systems advantages:

1. Installation takes half the time

2. Almost  no wires

SesMo is a combined seismic detector used to protect bank and media safes, strong rooms, automatic ticket machines (ATM), vending machines, telephones post and cash dispensers.

The SesMo family has few models; some integrates three technologies and others with less as per model and application.

Three detection combines: Seismic (Bimorph sensor), light and heat. The seismic sensor covers approximately 3 to 6 meters/square (depends on the
protected surface), plus voltage drop detection at under 7.5V.
